Simon Verlinde is a PhD student in Bioscience Engineering with a strong interest in applying artificial intelligence to livestock farming. His doctoral research, conducted jointly at ILVO and Ghent University, is part of a larger Horizon Europe project aWISH. During his research, he will be involved in different aspects of animal welfare quantification in pigs and broilers, including the development of a novel tear staining welfare indicator monitoring system and quantification of the general state of welfare.
